Letters to the Editor are a great way to persuade your neighbors. They should be clear, concise, and focused on one topic. Such as this one in yesterday's Patriot-News by a familiar face here on Little Blog Blue:
What Sen. Rick Santorum hasn't said is that Congress takes revenue from Social Security and sells it to the general fund in exchange for bonds. Who is going to pay the Social Security fund when those "IOU" bonds mature and require payment? The general fund is the answer.
Up to $2 trillion in transitional costs will be added to the deficit if private accounts are added. This will be paid out of the general fund. Americans will be paying on this debt for generations. It makes our country weaker.
Instead of using "scare tactics" and "wedge issues," why not be honest and take the responsibility to do what is necessary to restore fiscal sanity?

Great job, Tom. I can't find the exact poll, but I remember reading that public support for Bush's privatization plan - which already is weak - drops another 10 points or so when respondents are told of the $2 trillion cost.

come blow your horn
Bush is in the White House,
earning the world's scorn;
But where are the Progressives
to put up a fight?
Some may have fallen asleep
after Election Night.
Will we wake them?
Yes, we will,
and take back the White House
and Capitol Hill.
